Faith Formation

You Are Welcome Here

Lakewood Congregational Church is an Open and Affirming congregation. Wherever you are on life’s journey, we welcome you and all people of every sexual orientation, age, ability, gender identity and expression, and ethnic, economic, and racial background into the full life and ministry of our church. We declare this in the everlasting grace of the Still-Speaking God.

Whether your family has been coming to LCC for generations, you’ve been around a shorter time, or you’re brand new, we are glad you’re here, and we look forward to growing together in faith and friendship!

We hope that LCC is a place where your whole family feels welcome and loved.

Faith Formation

Classes for Sunday Morning Faith Formation are organized by grade:

  • Pre-school, kindergarten, first grade
  • Second and third grades
  • Fourth and fifth grades
  • Sixth through eighth grades
  • Ninth through twelfth grades

Pre-Kindergarten to Fifth Grade

Faith Formation classes for Pre-K through fifth graders are on Sunday mornings during church service. The classes include Bible stories, activities, and music designed to help young people grow in faith and friendship. There are no faith formation classes during the summer or holiday breaks from school. Keep an eye on the church calendar or feel free to contact Rachel if you are unsure.

Faith Formation Check-In

A parent or caregiver will accompany their children to check in each week. Check-in for Faith Formation begins at 9:45 a.m. downstairs in the lobby. Classes begin at 10 a.m. Children will only be released to their parent or caregiver.

During the Advent and Lenten seasons, check-on for Faith Formation is at the back of the Sanctuary.

Sixth to Twelfth Grade

Faith Formation for children in grades six to 12 is on second and fourth Sundays of the month. These students will start in the service and will be invited to go to their classes part way through the service. These older students do not have a check-in process. Faith Formation teachers will accompany them to their classrooms.

Faith Formation Registration

Lakewood Congregational Church abides by the United Church of Christ’s Safe Church policies. All children and youth must be registered to take part in LCC’s Faith Formation programs, and registration must be updated annually. Registration forms are available online.

Nursery

All young people are welcome to stay in worship. Infants through four year olds are also welcome to our nursery. The nursery is staffed by our loving and nurturing employee and volunteers. The nursery is located near the lobby on the main level. Look for the nursery signage near the puzzle library.

First Sundays

We do not have Faith Formation classes on the first Sunday of the month. First Sundays are “Worship for All Ages,” when everyone worship together as a church family and shares in Communion.
