Welcome - Lakewood Congregational Church

We invite you to learn about Lakewood Congregational Church, a member of the United Church of Christ, a Protestant denomination rich in heritage and vibrant in its extravagant welcome to all people. We are the “God Is Still Speaking” Church which celebrates the traditions of the past while not imprisoning God within ancient creeds. We use Scriptures as the foundation of our faith and also seek to discern how God is still speaking today. We are a church of great diversity of thought with an even greater unity in purpose: to share the Good News of God’s love for all people and to be a transforming ministry in our community and the world. Our Mission Statement proclaims our common goal. We strive to be a welcoming, worshiping community of faith, helping people discover and deepen their relationship with God, growing as disciples of Christ and reaching out in faith and loving service.

In keeping with the spirit of our Mission Statement, Lakewood Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, is an Open and Affirming congregation. We welcome people of all sexual orientation, ages, differing abilities, and ethnic, economic, and racial backgrounds into the full life and ministry of our church. We declare this in the name of the Still Speaking God, whose Son, Jesus Christ, welcomed all people into God’s circle of grace.

A welcome from Reverend Joanna D’Agostino:

Thank you for stumbling upon our website!

If you’re here, it’s probably because you’re somewhere along the path of a spiritual journey. Maybe you haven’t been to church since you were a kid, and now you have kids of your own and you want them to be a part of a faith community. Maybe you’ve been to church every Sunday of your life but a move or a life-change has made it so that you need a new church to go to. Maybe you’ve never been to church, and never imagined you’d even want to go to church, but something is missing in your life and this could be it. Maybe you’re even an active member at LCC and you’re just here to see what’s written on our website. Whatever it is that brought you here, we are a church of the journey. Here we believe that the journey is the destination, that the questions are the answers that it is in seeking and skepticism and wondering that we grow and flourish. That’s why we say that no matter who you are or where you are in life’s journey, you are welcome here.

We strive to make it so that our worship, programs, and energy are focused on our mission: We strive to be a welcoming, worshiping community of faith, helping people discover and deepen their relationship with God, growing as disciples of Christ and reaching out in faith and loving service.

We seek to meet this mission through music and the arts, through child and family education and programs, through community meals, through study and conversation, by offering the space in our building to the community, and by living into our commitment to love, support, and care for those in our midst.

We don’t always quite meet our mission. We are a community of humans, after all. (Humans are complicated. Amen?) But by God’s Grace, every day is a day to try again. So we offer that grace to ourselves and one another, and we keep on keeping on the journey.

You are welcome here. We welcome people of all sexual orientation, ages, differing abilities, and ethnic, economic, and racial backgrounds into the full life and ministry of our church. We don’t seek to change who you are, but we do hope that in your time here, you will grow into a fuller version of who God created and called you to be.

Please know you are always welcome to contact me.

Yours on the journey,

Rev. Joanna D’Agostino
