Lakewood Congregational church is excited to host performances by Les Délices beginning in January 2018. (pronounced ) has been recognized as “an early music group with an avant-garde appetite,” whose “concerts and recordings are journeys of discovery” (New York Times).
Founded by baroque oboist Debra Nagy in 2009, Les Délices has established a reputation for their unique programs that are “thematically concise, richly expressive, and featuring composers few people have heard of.” The group’s debut CD was named one of the “Top Ten Early Music Discoveries of 2009” (NPR’s Harmonia), and their performances have been called “a beguiling experience” (Cleveland Plain Dealer), “astonishing” (ClevelandClassical.com), and “first class” (Early Music America Magazine).
Their Spring 2018 concerts in Lakewood will include multiple Ohio premieres, international guest artists, and a large-scale collaboration with Quire Cleveland. Les Délices’ first program in Lakewood on January 13, 2018, Intoxicating, will transport audiences to another world with Medieval music. On March 10, 2018, the group will imagine the legendary queen of Carthage from three emotional and musical perspectives with Dido’s Lament. And on April 28, 2018, they’ll Let the Heavens Rejoice as they team up with beloved chamber choir Quire Cleveland for gorgeous, rarely-heard works for chorus & orchestra by Rameau and Mondonville. All concerts at Lakewood Congregational Church are at 8pm.
